These local Italian Swiss people took us into their stall tent and gave us wine and we sang along wth them. They sang Aston Villa repeatedly. Finally, it stopped raining and they sang us farewell.

Storm

Now in the stairwell sheltering from lightening and torrential rain. Supposed 2 be a firewk display but natures show trumps that!

Como

Ok, enough photos of me and my bike already no more of me for a while honest (sorry mum), but couldn't resist this quick pic as I parked in someones drive to get a fly out of my ear, and heared dogs barking from the house..... 'scarpa' is the only Italian We know.

To Como

Following Peter to Lake Como via hillside villages. This was near Argegno. Before we get to look back across the lake and then back to Switzerland. So twisty it was 15mph for most of it.

Mulhouse

After an alarming start where I saw Peter frantically waving in my mirrors, and me thinking what? Did I leave somethin? Am i losing luggage, oh yeah..right side of road Mark....doh! We went to the memorials in Verdun. What a ride. Just gets better, warm, sunny, perfct, twisties thru Alsace then up over our first pass, starting 2 get v swiss now. Arrvd at Mulhouse at 5:30.Tents up, am tryng 2 sleep in heat. More 2morrow as we head 4 swiss border like Steve McQueen in GE.

Verdun - Fort Douaumont

After a brief stop, we headed for Fort Douaumont, the memorial to the unknown soldiers. This was, as you can imagine a very sombre place.

The caskets contained bones of French soldiers who fell during the battle. obviously these could not be identified, but names appeared on plaques all over the inside of the monuments.

The Valley looks across the scene of battle as it is now, with row upon row of memorials in the foreground. On our ride through the valley, we saw wooded areas with trees planted since the war on ground that is still heavily bomb cratered.
